This is my good friend David Vertesi, I’ve known him since like grade 3 or something. Anyways his day job is playing bass in the band Hey Ocean, but he recently spent some time in Ontario recording his first solo record and will be playing a small run of shows in BC and Alberta this week. Although the new recordings aren’t quite finished yet, I strongly encourage you to check his myspace page HERE. Or, if you live in Lethbridge, Calgary, Kelowna or Vancouver you can check out the real deal when he plays there this week.

A number of my photos are in the current issue of Vancouver Magazine. This “You Are Here” story was particularly fun to shoot, as I got to drive to Whistler with my friend Brooks when he came for a visit back in November. Anyways, this month’s issue is sealed in plastic, so I guess that means you’ll have to buy it if you want to check it out. On the plus side though, it comes with a sweet wine guide… who doesn’t love a wine guide?
This might be one of the coolest music videos I’ve ever seen. I felt morally obliged to share it.

This is Ben Schabner. Ben is a makeup artist, but he also doubles as a great stand-in when I’m busy messing around with my flashes trying to get the lighting just right.

As mentioned, I did some photos for the band Maurice about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain during our shoot, so we missed out on the location’s maximum coolness potential – which, incidentally, was Cody Fennell’s rooftop – but Cody and his roommates were true team players and let us move the shoot into their living room/disco nightclub. On a side note, I’m particularly stoked on this photograph because I think it represents the direction of clean-looking, concept-driven images that my work seems to be going in. Anyways, lots more stuff to come in the year ahead.

I wanted to post one last photo before the new decade hits.
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Kai Turmann.

This past weekend I did some photos for the band Maurice. They were in town shooting a music video for their song “Love is Love” with director John Poliquin and I stopped by the shoot for a couple hours on Saturday to check it out. Normally video shoots aren’t that much fun – usually, everyone on set is pretty stressed and seems like they hate life – but this one was certainly the exception. Anyways, I did a separate photo shoot with the guys on Sunday, so be sure to check back once I get those posted.

In exactly one week from today, on December 14th, I’ll be taking part in my very first art show. The evening will feature a brand new portrait series by me, paintings by Tyler Schwindt, and musical performances by NORTHCOTE, My Friend John, and David Vertesi. Admission is free, so come down and check out some great music and art!

Stay tuned.
To everyone who has been sending me messages regarding my lack of updates, I apologize. I’ve been busier than ever these past couple weeks, and although unintentional, my blog has been neglected. My bad.
Anyways.
I’ve got a decent number of photos in the December issue of Vancouver Magazine which came out this week. Posting everything would be a bit ridiculous, so I’ll limit it to one page. This is a photo I took of Steve Da Cruz for a story on the Vancouver bar scene.

If you were to rank the months in terms of which ones are the best to take photographs in, November would be the world heavyweight champion. The light is always awesome, the trees have such great color, and taking photos just seems a little more effortless. Well, that’s my opinion anyway. Here’s a test shot from something I was working on this afternoon.

Just because it’s raining, doesn’t mean it’s not a great day outside.

I recently did some photos for Jessica and Kimberly who run a reworked vintage clothing company called (get ready for it, cause it’s the best name ever) Through Being Cool. It was a pretty awesome shoot, as Kimberly’s grandmother was our model. I’ll be sure to post a link once their website is up and running.

My friend Brooks Reynolds just shipped me 10 copies of his new art publication “Mountains” to distribute amongst appreciators of rad photography. Copies are only $10, and trust me, it’s worth it. So if you live in Vancouver and want to get your hands on one, just send me an e-mail. Don’t know what Mountains is? Check out the website HERE.
